British Precast, with the assistance of our Sustainability and Environmental Committee (SEC) has drafted a Water Policy which sets out a framework for more of our members to implement water management policies of their own. The policy focusses on Monitoring, Minimising and Prioritising the use of different water sources and protection of the environment through good water stewardship.

British Precast welcomes the UK concrete industry’s decision to develop and adopt a new carbon roadmap to deliver a ‘net negative’ industry by 2050. The announcement means the concrete industry is not only committing to meet the UK target of ‘Net Zero’ by 2050 but is also committing to removing more carbon from the atmosphere than the industry emits each year.

In January 2020, British Precast held discussions with research students and senior staff at Loughborough University’s School of Architecture Building and Civil Engineering and toured their industrial scale research laboratory. Recent research focusing on off-site fabrication of concrete components using 3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) and samples of products and test manufacturing were on show and the University is advancing a number of projects, including work under the 'Transforming Construction’ arm of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.
