Major pipe bedding research completed with results report to follow
A major research project exploring pipe bedding factors for large concrete pipes has now been completed, with the full results report currently pending. Delivered with the University of Birmingham and carried out at the National Buried Infrastructure Facility (NBIF). The programme investigated whether changes to current bedding design rules could unlock significant cost and carbon savings for the concrete pipeline sector. The work involved large-scale physical testing of pipes installed in different bedding classes under controlled loading conditions, alongside a review of key design standards. Early indications suggest the findings could have important implications for future design practice and help shape thinking across the UK and beyond.
