Safety and Health Awareness Day 2016: In Review
25 Nov 2016
Our second SHAD (Safety and Health Awareness Day) of the year took place on 24th November at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull. The event was a huge success, with over 70 delegates from over 30 companies in attendance. Members travelled from as far afield as Ireland and Cornwall to take part in the day.
Keynote speaker Philip White, Head of Operational Strategy (HSE) presented on HSE strategy and implementation and fielded some direct questions from the audience on risk assessmements and inspections. Matthew Mendham - Operations Manager at Forterra presented their British Precast award winning Safe Stressing initiative.
The remainder of the day was a mock trial courtesy of Kennedy’s Law. Marta Tomlinson, Kennedys Law and Alan Millband, Howes Percival introduced the mock court case and then acted as the prosecution and defence in a mock trial complete with judge, court usher and witnesses. The audience took the role of jury, with heated discussion around the many jury tables. The defendant was found guilty by a majority of the juries, after which sentencing took place. Excellent feedback from the event has demonstrated the benefit of presenting the issues through such a mock trial.
The next practical SHAD will be held on the 24th March 2017 courtesy of Forterra at their Hoveringham plant. Further details will follow soon.
