Stanton Bonna Concrete, M6 Smart Motorway Construction
Stanton Bonna's Aqua Slot Drain system was developed as a precast solution to overcome issues created when using a cast in situ alternative. The trapezoidal shape allows larger pieces of detritus to be pulled into the channel and creates excellent flow characteristics. In a live highway environment where in situ concrete use can be delayed by the weather, the Aqua Slot Drain units can be laid out in advance and installed by a small team in most weather conditions. The rapid installation of the system can achieve in excess of 150m per day per three-person gang.

H+H Celcon, Sig I-House Incorporating Celcon Elements
Collaboration between SIG Offsite and H+H has resulted in a housing system combining the quality, speed and safety of offsite manufacture with the performance attributes of aircrete. Storey-high aircrete panels form the inner leaf of external walls, separating walls and internal partitions. They are craned into place and installed using a fast-setting high strength mortar that forms a 3mm airtight joint. Timber floor cassettes are then lowered into place allowing the second storey of Celcon Elements to be installed immediately. The System also includes all lintels and insulation – fixed to the exterior of the Celcon Element panels and in between separating walls. The result is a watertight shell of a standard house design completed on site in one week.

Marshalls, Keydrain
‘Keydrain’ is a single piece concrete drainage unit with a central core specifically designed to drain surface water away. Dual slots pressed into the surface of the unit transfer water to the core via a perpendicular slot at each end face when placed adjacent to one another. Any required length can be achieved by simply adding more units. The product enters an arena which is traditionally filled with non-concrete solutions such as linear channel systems with a plastic or steel grate. A key benefit of Keydrain is its aesthetic appeal as it is manufactured in a variety of concrete colours, which compliment the surrounding concrete or natural stone paving products. Additionally, the shape and weight of Keydrain enables simple installation.

Marshalls, Mono Beany
Mono Beany is a combined kerb and drainage unit that is manufactured in 1m lengths. During manufacture a complex shape polyethylene core acts as a piece of formwork to Marshalls’ latest concrete technology. Once the unit is complete the polyethylene core forms an integral drainage element within each unit giving superb inlet and flow characteristics. The one piece aspect to Mono Beany allows the user to install the combined kerb and drainage system quickly - a 42% increase in output is reported for one smart motorway scheme.

Havsco, Hand/Arm Vibration Monitor
Current instrumentation for measuring Personal Exposure Levels of Hand-Arm Vibration (HAV) requires the sensor to be mounted on an adapter or directly on a vibrating tool, with the power and output signal transmitted to the data collection device via a cable. HAVSco’s HAVSense integrates a sensor and a miniature data logger into a simple device with no cables that fits under the operative’s glove. HAVSense technology directly measures the individual’s HAV dosage throughout the work period.
